The New Mexico Human Rights Coalition Education Fund was incorporated in August 1998 as a 501(c) (3) organization that promotes an understanding of the need for policies that support civil rights and social and economic justice, and encourages an appreciation of the New Mexico’s diversity. NMHRC-EF is the sister organization of the New Mexico Human Rights Coalition, a diverse civil rights coalition, consisting of organizations representing persons of color, women, children, individuals with disabilities, gays and lesbians, major religious groups and civil liberties and human rights groups. Through the newsletter, the Education Fund strives to educate and inform the public on a broad range of human rights issues and activities. The Ed Fund hopes that through awareness, the general public will widely support initiatives that support human rights. At present the Ed Fund is establishing a Leadership Development Training Committee. The purpose of the committee is to develop a training program to prepare high school juniors and seniors and college freshmen and sophomores to assume leadership in their respective communities. The committee is racially/ethnically diverse, made up of various community members, including teenagers and other youth. In addition to the Ed Fund, the Albuquerque Human Rights Officer and YDI (Youth Development Inc.) will be cosponsors of the training program.
