About NMHRC

NMHRC promotes health equity through safer drug use, overdose prevention, and helping our participants and community members to take an active role in creation of policies, procedures, and activities within our organization and others throughout the community.

Our Approach

The New Mexico Harm Reduction Coalition (NMHRC) empowers our community through a compassionate, stigma-free approach to harm reduction. Our services include syringe access, overdose prevention, and resource navigation—all guided by principles of mutual aid and community leadership.

Our team consists of certified Peer Support Workers, Community Health Workers, and Comprehensive Community Support Workers. Each staff member brings valuable lived experience, whether through personal drug use, supporting loved ones who use drugs, or navigating support systems for active users and those in recovery.

We champion health equity by promoting safer drug use practices and overdose prevention while ensuring our participants help shape our organization's direction. By actively involving community members in our policies, procedures, and activities, we create lasting positive change both within NMHRC and throughout the broader community.

Our staff was hand picked to deliver harm reduction services that are caring, compassionate, and comprehensive. Every member of NMHRC staff has lived experience, works actively in the field, and cares deeply for the needs and rights of those who use our services.
